Abstract: Ground water is Delaware's most important natural resource. Our aquifers, which are present everywhere in Delaware, provide more than 75 million gallons each day for all uses. Nearly all of the water used in Delaware south of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal is obtained from aquifers, both water-table and artesian. To understand the effects of projected increased demands on groundwater for water supply, a finite-difference, steady-state, groundwater flow model was used to simulate groundwater flow in the Coastal Plain sediments of southern New Castle County, Delaware.

The model simulated flow in the Columbia (water table), Rancocas, Mt. Laurel, combined Magothy/Potomac A, Potomac B, and Potomac C. To understand the effects of projected increased demands on ground water to supply water, a finite-difference, Simulation of groundwater flow in southern New Castle County, nine-layer, groundwater flow model was used to simulate groundwater flow in the Coastal Plain sediments of southern New Castle County, Delaware.

Results of the calibrated flow model show the maximum transmissivity of the lower aquifer is between 1, and 1, square feet per day; the middle aquifer, between 3, and 3, square feet per day; and the upper aquifer, between 5, and 6, square feet per day.

The contaminated area, known as the New Castle Public Wells Ground Water Plume Site, is approximately seven square miles. The Site is bound by Interstate to the north, the Delaware River to the east, Route to the south, and Route 13 and New Castle County Airport to the Size: KB.
